EVENT INFORMATION

As part of our 20th anniversary festivities, our ‘Twenty Years of Music’ events promise a truly eclectic list of artists and events.

Twenty Years of Music:  ‘Barker and Shaw at the movies’

We are thrilled to welcome the Mercury Award-winning trumpeter, composer, conductor, arranger and broadcaster Guy Barker MBE who will be joined by ‘Best Jazz Vocalist’ Ian Shaw in a heady evening of music from some of the greatest movies of all time.  From the Hoagy Carmichael years through film noir and the Sixties thrill to ‘Toy Story’, this hugely entertaining duo will transport you to Hollywood, swinging London and Cinècitta and back again.

About Guy

He is simply Britain’s greatest trumpet player whose music is notable for its grace and invention. His original compositions confirm that he’s a witty composer as well as a polished musical mind. As a sideman he has played with many major musicians, including Georgie Fame, Mike Westbrook, Frank Sinatra, Chris Hunter, Mike Oldfield, and Cleo Laine.  He was awarded the MBE for services to jazz in 2015.  And after a sell-out performance in 2017, the Guy Barker Big Band Orchestra returns to the Royal Albert Hall this December.

About Ian

Twice voted ‘Best Jazz Vocalist’ at the BBC Jazz Awards, Ian Shaw has already amassed a number of highly acclaimed internationally released albums and is a popular performer both in the UK and the US. He has been cited, along with Mark Murphy and Kurt Elling, as one of the world’s finest male jazz vocalists.
