EVENT INFORMATION

Ken Wharfe was protection officer to the most famous woman in the world, Diana Princess of Wales, and to her children, Princes William and Harry.

Ken joined the Metropolitan Police Force as a special cadet at the age of 17. He attained the rank of Inspector, before being selected to join Scotland Yard’s elite Royal and Diplomatic Department, SO14. In 1986, after training with the SAS, Ken was chosen to head up security for heir apparent Prince William and Prince Harry who, as children, affectionately called him ‘Uncle Ken’. A year later, he was appointed as personal protection officer to the Princess of Wales.

Some months following the death of the Princess, The Queen made Ken a Member of the Victorian Order – a personal gift for his loyal service to her family. He was later appointed as Personal Protection Officer for the Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, and was to uphold this role until his retirement, after serving the force for 34 years, nearly half of which was in Royal protection.

The evening will offer guests the opportunity to ask any questions regarding his career and working with the Princess.

Cost: £10 per person (all monies to our charity, Save the Children UK).

Time/Location: 7.00pm, Etruscan Room
