EVENT INFORMATION

Join Cleo Roberts of Art History UK for this summer afternoon walking tour of Kensington Gardens including Grayson Perry’s highly anticipated summer exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery.

Perry is one of the most sharp-witted commentators on modern society and through a variety of traditional media, his new exhibition covers contemporary politics, class, religion and sex. From here, we’ll gather under the shade of the 2017 Serpentine Pavilion, designed by the award-winning African architect, Diebedo Francis Kéré. This stripped-back, tree-like structure brings Kéré’s native villages of Burkina Faso to west London, evoking memories of local communities gathering together under the shade of branches.

We’ll then saunter over to the Serpentine Sackler Gallery via a selection of Kensington Garden’s sculptural commemorations to the nation’s heroes: from William Kent’s Temple to Queen Caroline, to George Frederic Watts’ Physical Energy Statue, from the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain, to Henry Moore’s The Arch.

The tour will end at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery, where the acclaimed US filmmaker and artist, Arther Jafa, is exhibiting his first solo UK exhibition. His multidisciplinary practice ranges from films to installations, and tackle issues about identity and race.

Cost: £32 per person including welcome drink.

Time/Location: 2:30pm – 4.00pm, Serpentine Gallery, W2 3XA
